$3,000 Michael J. Berkeley Foundation Scholarship

The mission of the Michael J. Berkeley Foundation is to assist deserving minority youth in reaching their highest potential in the sport of golf through education, business ventures, or a professional golf career. Currently, the primary method by which we achieve this mission is through our annual Michael J. Berkeley Foundation Scholarship. The Foundation awards scholarships to full-time college students of color who personify Michael J. Berkeley's legacy. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, extracurricular/community involvement, leadership/team skills, financial need, commendations, honors, written communication skills, essays, letters of recommendations and verbal communication skills pursuant to a telephonic interview.

In 2003, the Foundation awarded two $2,500 collegiate scholarships and sponsored two GOLFWORKS Interns for $2,500 each. In 2004, six full-time college students were awarded a $2,500 scholarship. In 2005, the Foundation increased its scholarship award to $3,000 and selected twelve Michael J. Berkeley Foundation Scholars out of eighteen finalists. In 2006, 18 applicants were selected to receive a $3,000 scholarship out of 25 finalists. Eleven of the eighteen scholars were first time recipients, six were second year recipients and one was a third year recipient. Last year, twenty applicants (10 young men and 10 young women) were selelcted to be Michael J Berkeley Foundation Scholars.  Of the 20, half were first time recipients of the scholarship.
